At this year’s International Dangerous Goods Days in Hamburg, former DB Cargo employee Ralf Redeker was honoured with the prestigious German Dangerous Goods Prize 2025. The award, sponsored by the publishing house “ecomed-Storck” and presented by the magazine “Gefährliche Ladung”, was presented by State Secretary Hartmut Höppner from the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport.
Redeker received the award for his outstanding achievements over approximately 24 years of international and national committee work in the field of dangerous goods transport, serving as a specialist in dangerous goods management in the IMS and Dangerous Goods Management department until 30 September 2024. As a representative of the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV), he was active on the Dangerous Goods Advisory Board and in the Class 7 Working Group of the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport. At international level, he chaired the International Union of Railways (UIC) Group of Experts on the Carriage of Dangerous Goods.
Under Redeker’s leadership, the UIC expert group achieved numerous significant improvements in international dangerous goods legislation. These include the clarification of responsibilities for the transport of empty, uncleaned tankers containing refrigerated liquefied gases, and the revision of the IRS 40471-3 quality assurance system to control risks in accordance with the Rail Safety Directive 2016/798/EU. These developments have strengthened the position of rail as a safe and reliable mode of transport for dangerous goods.
UIC warmly congratulates Redeker on this well-deserved honour and thanks him for his decades of commitment, which have had a significant impact on the sector as a whole.
