On 30 September 2025, the RAIL4CITIES project reached a key milestone with the successful delivery of its Final Interactive Webinar, marking the official conclusion of this two-year European initiative. Held online, the event brought together 50 registered participants from across Europe and beyond, including urban planners, railway professionals, researchers, and public authorities.
Launched under the Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking (EU-Rail), RAIL4CITIES set out to rethink the role of railway stations within the urban ecosystem. More than mere transport nodes, stations are increasingly recognised as catalysts for sustainable urban transformation. The project’s ambition was clear: to equip decision-makers with the tools and knowledge required to turn stations into Sustainable City Promoters – vibrant, inclusive, and climate-resilient spaces at the heart of our cities.
The final webinar featured a dynamic format with audience participation, combining strategic insights with hands-on demonstrations. Participants had the opportunity to explore the project’s main achievements, including the Station Transformation Toolkit – a practical resource designed to support the planning and implementation of station area regeneration projects.
Throughout the event, participants engaged in lively discussions and interactive polls, reflecting the collaborative spirit that has characterised RAIL4CITIES from the outset. The project’s Living Labs – real-world testbeds in cities across Europe – played a crucial role in validating the tools and approaches developed, ensuring their relevance and adaptability to different urban contexts.
As RAIL4CITIES draws to a close, its legacy lives on through a comprehensive set of open-access resources, available on the project website: www.rail4cities.eu . These tools are designed to support stakeholders in reimagining station areas as engines of sustainable growth and social cohesion.
